At high tide roots and basal portions of the mangrove stems are innudated.  Organisms can move in and out of the mangroves, and forage among the trees at this time.  Nutrients and other materials also move in and out with the tides.  This mangrove forest grows on the Galapagos Islands showing the dispersal capability of mangroves.  This picture provided by Dr. G. Collier, University of Tulsa.
