This
false-headed bug has an empty peanut-shaped portion of its exoskeleton
projecting forward from the true head. Does it function by luring
predators into attacking the false head? Does it function in male-male
interactions like horns? Of course the insect is well camouflaged on
lichen-covered tree bark. But in case this doesn't work, this insect has
still another defense mechanism.
