Notes:
It is a pleasure and an honor to be here. I want to thank the College of Arts & Sciences for this honor, and also to thank my colleagues in Biological Sciences who nominated me and who provided support, both for this award, and more importantly in the form of intellectual stimulation.
TITLE. For this talk I decided to focus the range of questions that form the subdiscipline of ecology. Ecology is the conceptual basis for what I do, and rather than tell you all about mosquitoes, how they impact people, and what my research has shown, I will give you an overview of the field of ecology, describing some of the big questions and hypotheses that ecologists investigate, using as examples some of the work my students and I have done investigating those questions using mosquitoes as a model system. Along the way, I will also try to inform you about the interesting natural history of mosquitoes and the health related issues concerning mosquitoes and their interaction with man.
