12/8/00 The fourth lecture exam will be given on Wednesday, Dec. 13 at 1 PM in the lecture room in Degarmo
    It will cover material given since the third exam plus
        a few questions repeated from the third exam,
        questions related to the laboratories which were not covered on earlier exams, and
        a question asking you to make diagrams of mitosis and meiosis.
    You will not need to memorize the genetic code (which codons code for which amino acid).
    Students who are taking the course for in-course honors credit should turn in their papers on 12/8 or 12/11 at the latest.

11/13/00  The third lecture exam will be given on Friday, Nov. 17 in Schroeder 244.  It will cover topics 8 - 11.
    There will be help sessions on:
        Wednesday, Nov. 15 from 4-5 in SLB 124 (the genetics lab) and
        Thursday, Nov. 16 from 7 - 10PM in SLB 121

11/6/00 The third lecture exam will be postponed 1 week.  It will be given on Friday, Nov. 17  in Schroeder 244 and not on Friday, Nov. 10.  We agreed to this change in class on Friday, Nov. 3.
    Also, I am planning a help session in SLB 124 (the genetics lab) on Thursday, Nov. 9 to answer questions about chromosome aberrations.  I will check in class on Wednesday, Nov. 8 to be sure people will be planning to attend.
    A help session will also be held on Nov. 16 in SLB 121.  We will need to decide on a starting time.

10/18/00  A help session will be held in SLB 124 (the genetics lab) from 4-5 on Wednesday (10/18) and a second help session will be held in SLB 121 on Thursday (10/19/00) from 7-10.
    The tape of Watson's lecture can be picked up from me in my office and viewed on a combination TV-VCR in the genetics lab (SLB 127).  Please call (8-2685) or email me to pick up the tape for viewing.
    The second lecture exam will be in Schroeder 244 on Friday, 10/20/00.   You can begin any time between 12 and 1, and you will have 2 hours from the time you begin.  If you do not have a 2-hour time block free between 12 and 3 on that day, please contact me to make other arrangements.
    The second lecture exam covers from topics 04-9 (complementation analysis) through all of topic 07 (extranuclear inheritance).  There will be some questions from the lab, and there will be a few questions repeated from the first exam (perhaps in a slightly different form).

10/10/00  A help session will be held on 10/10 will be from 4 - 5 PM in Felmley 136.
        A combination TV-VCR will be placed in the genetics lab (SLB127) on 10/11/00 for viewing the video tape of James Watson's talk.   You can check out the tape from me in my office and take it to the genetics lab for viewing.  Please contact me to make arrangements.

9/15/00 James Watson (of Watson and Crick) will be visiting the Illinois Wesleyan Campus the week of Sept. 25. 
    He will give two lectures during his visit:
    1) Tuesday, Sept. 26, 5:00 PM,  in "The Chapel", he will give a presentation titled "The pursuit of happiness". 
            It will be about the humanistic side of science.
    2) Wed., Sept. 27, 7 PM, in the Shirk Center.  The title of this presentation is "The Human Genome Project".
        I hope that many of you will be able to attend one or both of these lectures.

9/12/00 No chi-square problems will be on the first examination.

9/11/00  The first lecture exam is Friday, 9/15/00 in Schroeder 244.  You can begin anytime between 12 and 1 and will have two hours from the time you begin.  If you do not have a 2-hour time block free between 12 and 3 on that day, please see me to make other arrangements.

8/19/00  Note, there is no laboratory during the first week of classes.

8/19/00  The lectures for B219 will be held in DeGarmo Room 206 this semester.

8/19/00  Be sure to pick up your B219 Laboratory Manual from the Phi Sigma Bookstore before the second week of classes.  The Phi Sigma Bookstore will only be open from 8:30 to 3:30 M-F during the first two weeks of classes.
